Hi,

- Installation on Mounted Drive is that ok... [4 Updates]
- Error while installation But everything works fine... [1 Update]
<ul> <span>Apex Thread <<a href="mailto:ap...@gmail.com" target="_blank">ap...@gmail.com</a>></span> Feb 05 09:03PM -0800 <br> <br> I am already using this soft but thinking of installing this on<br>
external HDD as all internal HDD fails without warning… i dont want
to loose any stuff… but external HDD need to mount every time Linux
starts which can be done by auto mounting at startup…
But the thing is will the software still work properly without and
issues…
so that this software installtion folder will be safe and backup of
SQL db can be done form PHPmyadmin…
so that you wont need to install the software everytime …
folder is safe in external HDD
just restore the SQL db in phpmyadiim…
What ever i am thinking here is it going to work Properly …
Thank you…

AFAIK, it will work…
But the real question is what do you mean by install on Ext.HD??
place the db on an auto-mounted ext.hd and point mysql to use that as
the db file??
Install the complete Linux server on the Ext.HDD with python + mysql +
webserver(i.e: apache) ??
Not to mention the other point about int.hdd failing without notice… As
long as you don't run periodic smartctl on your HDDs you'll miss them
failing anyways… (personal experience…)
So you'll have to clarify exactly what you are thinking and re-phrase the
question…

External HDD - we use External portal 1TB HDD to store our complete
company Data connected to computer by USB. and share on Network to
work for other computer and i feel that is the safe way to have data
stored and we don't load any OS on this HDD as we use this HDD only
for Data store... As my exp is not good with Internal HDD.. They fail
always for me.. So
And thanks again for giving me idea to place Sql db on HDD and point
mysql to use that as the db file..
And now the question i asked was.. If i have the ERPNext folder on
this External HDD connected to computer through USB and point mysql to
the db file on this Ext HDD will everything work smoothly..
Hope i explained it nicely this time..

Should not make any difference if the folder is accessible with the right permissions - I worry it might slow down things though - specially for large queries (reports).
Easier to write a script to dump the db into your USB every day or so
