As with most ERP’s out there, ERPNext manufacturing caters an assembly type of manufacturing. Meaning, transforming a series of Raw Materials into a saleable Finished Product.
In the sector I operate in however, the manufacturing process takes one (1) raw material, and break it down into many Finished Goods.
Hey @Wackener sounds like you’re interested in Process Manufacturing instead of Discrete Manufacturing (which ERPNext caters for). ERPNext doesn’t work for process manufacturing out-of-the-box but there are work arounds depending on what you want to achieve.
I come from timber CNC manufacturing where a plywood sheet (raw material) is consumed to create multiple plywood parts. These parts are then assembled into a finished product – to make the CNC process work in ERPNext we manually adjust stock by decreasing the raw material and increasing the stock for each of the plywood parts (sub-assemblies) created. Its not a great solution as you end up relying on your own adjustments being correct rather than ERPNext handling it, but it does work.
Alternatively you’ll find discussion on the forum about previous work to create a Process Manufacturing module – since ERPNext is open source you can make it do whatever you want. If your manufacturing processes involves chemicals/fabric where output quantity isn’t known until after you’ve completed the process you could still implement manual adjustment.
