Since v15.79 (PR #49549), submitting or cancelling any stock transaction on a batch or serial item is refused when a Stock Reconciliation submitted at a later date covers the same batch in the same warehouse:
Since the stock reconciliation exists for future dates, cancel it first. For Serial/Batch, if you want to make a backdated transaction, avoid using stock reconciliation.
Before that version, a backdated entry was simply absorbed by the later count. I opened Do not allow backdated entries if stock reco exists in future ... why ? · Issue #49861 · frappe/erpnext · GitHub about it a year ago, without a maintainer answer, so I am turning to the community instead.
The corrections are rarely about quantities: a transaction on the wrong date, the wrong supplier on a purchase receipt, a work order consumption to reassign so the costing is right, or a row with no later count in the same entry as rows that have one. The only way through is to cancel every later count on that batch and warehouse, fix the entry, then redo the counts.
If you count batched items with Stock Reconciliation, how do you handle corrections older than your last count? Do you cancel and redo the counts, or have you moved away from Stock Reconciliation for those items altogether? Curious to hear how others live with it.
We are currently on v15.76 and about to upgrade to v15.124.1.
