I have Individuals as customers and Commercial customers.
I also have 107 different districts that each have different sales taxes.
So, I need customer John Doe to be in the Individuals Group and the District 14 group at the same time. This way I can sort my Commercial Customers out from my Individuals and still have the correct Tax Rule applied by the district customer groups. There are over 4000 customers and it didn’t make sense to try to manage them individually. I also do not want over 4000 Tax Rules! (Having 107 district Tax Rules is bad enough)
Customers can only be in multiple groups if they are nested within each other (i.e. State group, and County Group as a sub group of State)
However, this does not work well with tax rules as only one rule can be applied to a transaction.
Use the customer type to sort Individuals from Commercial and use the County field in the billing address to sort them by district. It also makes it easier to apply the correct tax rules this way.
If needed to collect 2 taxes (State and County) separately, then make 1 template with both taxes listed at County level. It works.
