Subcomponents of BOM are serialized - able to track them?

Hello,
when I create a BOM with serialized subcomponents I want be able to track them once my finished product is sold to a customer.
Scenario: My finished product is built out of items that are serialized. If one serialized part is problematic and I would like to repair or replace that part, I am not able to find out in which finished product they are installed. I want to be able to see how many customers are affected.
I do not see the point why I am able to create BOMs with serialized items but later cannot track these items. What is the reason?

If you have delivered with Serial Nos, then you should be able to trace that with a query. I there is no standard report for that.
