Support module to be removed in v17?

To be replaced by the Helpdesk app. My question is, why?? Support is so well integrated into ERPNext. As a manufacturer, being able to track issues and warranty claims by customer, item code, serial number, etc. is essential. A brief look at Helpdesk has me scratching my head. There’s no equivalence between the two. What am I missing? The decision to deprecate the Support module in favour of Helpdesk seems grossly misguided to me. I’d be very disappointed. Any explanation?

Good point. I don’t think we will deprecate the support module, but now I think about it, we should just wire the new helpdesk front-end to the old doctypes.

Maybe the helpdesk/CRM exploration should end in being merged in erpnext

Thank you for the response @rmehta. Just my two cents: partitioning business modules into disjointed apps would be a big loss. The CRM module workflow of Lead → Opportunity → Quotation → Sales Order, all linked to customers and items within the ERP is very useful and works beautifully. The new CRM app isn’t, at least not for us.

In the case of Support, to reiterate, same thing: issue and warranty-claim links to items and customers are critical, and the Helpdesk app is useless to us.

Maybe these separate apps are useful to others as standalone apps, but it is my hope that central ERP functionality will not be sacrificed. In the CRM module right now, the sidebar has a link at the bottom “Switch to Frappe CRM”. That’s worrying.

@henrybraun agreed. We’re working towards that direction where apps could be used standalone if needed but when installed together they all work with each other.

I can see the value in that. I was just alarmed by the header at the top in the Support module, “This module is scheduled for deprecation and will be completely removed in version 17, please use Frappe Helpdesk instead”, and the realization that Helpdesk bears no resemblance to Support and doesn’t seem to “talk” to ERPNext.

@henrybraun We are actively working towards making both Helpdesk and CRM at par in terms of features with the Support and CRM module, respectively. We understand that the support module has a lot more features compared to Helpdesk (warranty claims, etc.). till complete parity with the module is achieved, we won’t deprecate it.
