“Switzerland Federal Government Requires Releasing its Software as Open Source.”
While this legislation is not suggesting that government must all begin to use open source software, it does provide a huge fillip of interest and attention to the Free Open Source Software movement.
The legislation ensures that wherever source code is being developed by or for public bodies, then this software must be disclosed unless third-party rights or security concerns prevent it.
It is not a stretch to imagine that this will encourage other legislators to develop similar legislation, and for commercial software users to look upon FOSS software more favourably.
It is surely in the interests of this community here to give this news the prominence it deserves within their spheres of influence.
