Template items shows up in raw material list in BOM

When we have variants created from Templates, ideally templates should not have any stock and should not be included in manufacturing process. However, when we make an item as template, it is still showing in raw material list when we try to create a BOM.

This might lead to errors as someone might inadvertantly select template item.
Shouldn’t “Maintain Stock” and “Include Item in Manufacturing” be both disabled as soon as “Has variants” box is ticked?

I understand that if we uncheck them, the variants will be created with these boxes unchecked, but how do we stop template items showing in the dropdown list while creating BOM
