With the rollout of Frappe Cloud v2, we are also addressing the concerns and issues we noticed in the marketplace.
The new Marketplace now resides on GitHub at frappe/marketplace. Moving forward, all new apps listed on Frappe Cloud v2 will be published directly from this central registry, which means every virtual machine, whether hosted on Frappe Cloud or self-hosted, will have full access to this registry-backed marketplace built right into frappe/pilot.
Instead of having to submit your apps on a portal, like in the case of v1, contributors can now directly open pull requests on frappe/marketplace and get their app listed.
Adding Apps to Marketplace
Every app listing is managed directly via Pull Requests on the frappe/marketplace repository using two files:
-
apps.json: Acts as the global registry to index primary app metadata. -
apps/<app-name>.json: Tracks specific version releases, compatible version ranges, and commit references.
// ./apps.json
{
"name": "helpdesk",
"title": "Helpdesk",
"description": "Well designed, open source ticketing system",
"repo": "https://github.com/frappe/helpdesk",
"logo_url": "https://cloud.frappe.io/files/helpdesk (1).png",
"website": "https://frappe.io/helpdesk",
"documentation": "https://docs.frappe.io/helpdesk",
"categories": ["Featured", "Support"],
"category": "Applications",

"releases": "apps/helpdesk.json"
}
// ./apps/helpdesk.json

"dependencies": {
"telephony": ">=0.0.1,<1.0.0"
},

]
}
This process allows contributors to index their app once and easily raise new releases, the releases are commit based now which now guarantees that no branch scoped bug travels to newer updates.
Contributors can also configure workflows in their projects, to automatically raise pull requests on the marketplace, when a new release of their listed app is pushed.
Automated Quality Checks
The biggest improvement in the new marketplace is moving away from manual approvals. Now, every app submitted to the marketplace will automatically run through a series of continuous checks and validations:
-
Syntax & Import Validations: Catching syntax errors and broken imports before deployment.
-
Hooks & Repository Structure: Ensuring hooks are declared correctly and the repository layout follows standard Frappe architecture.
-
Symlinks & Fixture Checks: Preventing common issues during migrations.
These checks directly address our key learnings from v1, targeting the primary root causes of app installation and site migration failures.
For instance, broken imports are difficult to catch upfront, but routinely break site migrations down the line. Because we have completely eliminated the build step in v2, we baked these critical validation checks directly into the marketplace pipeline instead.
Once your app passes all automated checks, it goes live immediately without any manual approvals required.
Existing Apps & Next Steps
We have already migrated existing 119 apps to the new marketplace, if you notice your app is missing or needs its versioning updated, please submit a Pull Request to get it listed.
All developers and contributors are invited to list their new apps directly on this marketplace, every app in this registry will be available on Frappe Cloud v2 at launch, and self-hosted users running frappe/pilot can start using them immediately.
If you run into any edge cases, have feedback, or catch a misclassified app, feel free to open an issue or Pull Request on frappe/marketplace!
