Will totally *not* recommend running it in shared hosting and in most cases you won't be able because you will not be allowed to setup your own virtual host file. Also you will hit a "quota exceeded" pretty soon and they might even take out your app without notice. (This info is based on my experience 3-4 years ago, so I am not sure about recent shared hosts)
You should try minimum virtual hosting to get started. It has its pain issues too (like occasional restarts). Best case would be dedicated hosting. For best results, you can try hosting close to your location. We host at http://hetzner.de

What version of erpnext did you installed 3 years back and what are the procedures in installing it on a shared hosting server?
Will appreciate sharing your knowledge with me… cause I have made several attempt in installing it on a shared server without success,
Regards

Completely agrees with Rushabh, but to answer your original question,
I once had erpNext installed (it was a development environment but) on a dreamhost shared server.
Though it was painful to install the custom python and the dependencies etc, but it worked pretty well for a while.
Dreamhost has good documentation about custom installations etc in its wiki
So I would say though its painful, its not an impossible thing. But as Rushabh said, even I don't recommend installing it on a Shared server for Live usage!

@Lateef - Installation procedures remain the same, you might have to request a ssh login id from your host.
@Sudev, thanks for sharing!
Btw, Anand is planning to put up a virtual image ( soon on our site that we will keep updating so that we can get over the installation hassles. I just checked that Open Bravo does the same thing!

So you are suggesting using a dedicated server or vps.
but the installation is still my issues…I mean going about it.
Thanks

And about the installation on shared server, if you can let us know what is the exact problem you are facing, may be we could help. But as Rushabh said, the first step will be to make sure you have an ssh access, else get one.
As I said I was using dreamhost, and these instructions might be a place to start. And, may be you will be
able to find similar information for your host as well. (I am not recommending DH in anyway, just that I was using DH, and it has worked well for me).
