Hello,
was just wondering if it’s advisable/possible to run your ERPNext instance from the /var/www instead of the frappe users home directory.
As this is in theory a web service, it would be ideal to have the files and things be running in the /var/www folder.
In line with this, can you run erp-next as the www-data user?
Is there any drawbacks to this? any reasons why this isn’t the norm etc?
Would appreciate any feedback.
Hi there,
You can put your frappe bench wherever you want, at least as far as I am aware. If you really want to put it in /var/www
, I suspect you can, though I’m not sure what if anything will be gained.
As far as users go, there are a number of different processes involved, and you can configure each to use whichever user you want. Again, though, I’m not sure what problem you’re trying to solve.
Hi @peterg
Appreciated the feedback.
Not so much an issue that needed solving, more of standard that I want to follow. With things that are web accessible I want it in /var/www and part of the www-data group, just so that when troubleshooting or anything of the kind, it’s easier to track down. As theres more experience with apache and the www setup than with the frapeuser/home from my side.
I will be doing an install and doing it through the /var/www folder and see how it goes when using it as a www-data user.
Thanks again
