Hi everyone, I’ve been following the “Version 16 Release Plan” thread and saw that the final release was planned for September '25. Could the team please provide an update on the current status of the stable Version 16 release?
We have finalised the release dates of version 16.
Beta Release: 15th November 2025
Final Release: 6th December 2025 (at Frappeverse Egypt)
Made a separate post as well (ERPNext, HRMS & Frappe Framework v16 Release Dates).
Me too, super excited to do a fresh install of 16 immediately when it comes out LOL.
I’m waiting too
v16.0.0-beta.1
Please help me understand how the new UI is an improvement?
Previous versions would allow me to navigate from HR workspace to selling workspace in one click.
Now its six clicks:
- App Menu
- Click on “Desktop”
- Find and click on “selling” from icons (much prefer a list)
- Click App Menu again (now it says “Selling”)
- Click Workspaces
- Click one of the fifteen workspaces
OMG who thinks this is a good idea?
Who approved this horrid change?
Who will ever like this better than one click?
i think same, its much more complicated, but i hope it will fixed & improved by time
Several fixes and improvements coming. I think we will like it.
Yes, I completely agree with you. I also feel lost when using the Version 16 UI — it’s genuinely confusing compared to the previous versions. Navigating between workspaces used to be a simple, intuitive one-click action, but now it feels like unnecessary extra steps.
I tested V16 today with some dummy data, and I agree with you partially. It all depends on how you use ERPNext. I personally am not much of a click-first user, I much prefer using the search bar on top … so CTRL+K and type in “Sales Invoice” and done. In V16 I didn’t notice any delay on my work routine.
Negatives aspects of V16
- For users who are still working to get familiarized with Frappe and ERPNext v15 this will be a shock. Its a big departure from what it used to be.
- For Click-First users it adds a lot of extra work. I can sympathize as many of my employees are like that.
- It is very difficult to open multiple tabs that are located in very different parts of the system. For example I am an Operations Manager, and working on Purchase Orders … someone walks into my office asking for help or guidance with Production. I used to simply click my logo on the top left corner, open in new tab, and would proceed to find the area they needed help with. This can’t be done anymore as I cannot open Desktop in a new Tab. This either forces me to save my work, and move to another part of the system to help someone and then go all the way back to where i was.\
- Many windows are in specific workplaces and when you search, it seems to get the workspace that comes first. For example when I search for Sales Order, instead of opening the Selling Workspace it brought up Subcontracting workspace.
Positives aspects of V16:
- The workspace used to be a place to hold your shortcuts. This would cause the user to navigate into a workspace … example Buying. Normally that workspace has a ton of features but since users just want to get their work done, they navigate to Purchase Order, do their work and log off. But this new view allows them much better access to the reports and they can take the time to view data better. This feature alone will make ERPNext extremly useful to companies and teams.
That being said, I feel the one positive aspect of this new navigation outweighs the negatives because of it’s potential. The negatives can be easily sorted by doing the following:
-
When a user navigates into a workspace, keep the other workspaces open on the left side bar (like it was before) this will make it more familiar for people who are moving over from V15. Once the user clicks on a specific doctype, replace the left sidebar with a workspace specific sidebar. This will allow the user to have a macro view of the app but when they are ready for work it will focus the user experience to a specific target work area.
-
Shift the Desk button down, allow a space for the Company / Frappe logo as before. Allowing the user to right click and open multiple tabs. Additionally not sure how the UI would look but instead of offering two options (Desk and Website) you could show all the workspaces on the drop down menu. This would eliminate 3 clicks.
-
Allow the doctype to specify which Workspace its primarily belongs to. This way you can assign a doctype to multliple workspaces but the doctype can only belong to one main workspace. So when I search up Sales Order it directly sends me to the workspace Selling.
Do these three and you should have a solid system that will increase productivity.
Hi
Not sure if this is the right forum I hope its is.
On version 16 can you look into the following:
0. Make ERPNext mobile friendly and easy to use on a mobile phone.
- A better way to manage user roles, rights and views especially having it on one place for the whole system currently its very dis-joined.
- Can user roles, rights and views be en-grained to the core such that even if one creates a custom module it inherits and is bound to the core user roles, rights and views unless a custom rule has been provided.
- Can you have one place where you can view, edit, update, create settings for any module, plugin, custom code you can have it per company or company group
- Can you have a better definition of branches in-relation to a company or company group from how one defines it, accounts for it, reports on it etc. is it a mini company or a mini department?
- Can you improve how one is able to get consolidated company reports depending on how one has created the company hierarchy the basic consolidated reports include balance sheet, profit and loss, trial balance, gross profit, cash flow statement etc
- A dedicated module for inputting expenses that can be extended to the employee entered / generated expenses.
- A way to track cash advanced to employees for business purposes like a petty cash or when one has an employee visa card for the employees and easier way to verify, approve and track the expenses and cash.
- A way to get reports and transactions based on the bank, bank account, mode of payment, accounting cost center, branch, department.
- A better statement of account for sales and purchases, for customer statements and supplier statements it should have the invoice and payment number and total amount like it currently does but also the list of items charged and amount charged in the particular invoice.
- A better and easier way to install and remove custom code especially code listed on the frappe website on the fly its currently very complicated.
- Re-look at the workflows module make it easier to use
- Make the notifications module stand out easier to use, easier to view and notice.
- Look into the default doc types editing caution can you have the default doc types fields unique numbering different from the user field type items like a textbox then one does not have to duplicate a doc type or custom changes being overwritten by updates or version changes.
- Ensure seamless and easy upgrades/updates from one version to the next like from version 15 to version 16
- Better Image management reuse of images it currently duplicates the image, deleting of deleted images to save space
- Have different docker images with different features and modules but on the minimum one with the minimum official features and modules and one with all the official features and modules
- Have better instructions for the installation of ERPNext on docker especially on the composer and yaml files, installing and working with bench
- Module or way to conduct inter-bank transfers especially on the POS moving of cash from the cash drawer to bank and a way to easily enter inter-bank transfers
Thanks
These seem to be feature request, I would suggest you to add them one by one here:
