Frappe Mail As An Email Hosting Service

Could Frappe Mail Be Offered as an Email Hosting Service?

I would like to suggest that Frappe consider offering Frappe Mail as an email hosting service as well.

Most business email hosting providers charge per mailbox/user, which can become expensive for companies that need many email addresses.

For example, providers such as MXroute offer a different model where customers pay based on storage rather than per mailbox. For example:

  • 50 GB storage → around $50/year

  • 100 GB storage → around $100/year

  • Multiple mailboxes can use the same shared storage pool.

Another example is Biza.email which follows a similar concept of pooled/shared storage rather than charging separately for every mailbox.

This type of email hosting is relatively difficult to find. Most providers charge per user/mailbox, while companies may need many addresses such as:

  • sales@

  • purchase@

  • accounts@

  • support@

  • service@

  • info@

  • individual employee accounts

Since Frappe Cloud does not charge per user/seat in the same way as many SaaS platforms, I think it would be a great opportunity for Frappe to offer email hosting under Frappe Mail using a similar pooled-storage pricing model.

For example, Frappe Mail could offer:

50 GB pooled storage → fixed annual/monthly price
100 GB pooled storage → fixed annual/monthly price

with multiple mailboxes, aliases, custom domains, IMAP/SMTP, Modern Webmail, AI email draft/reply and proper business email features included.

This could be especially useful for small and medium-sized businesses already using Frappe Cloud and ERPNext, as they could manage their ERP, Helpdesk, CRM, and business email within the Frappe ecosystem.

I believe this could be a valuable addition to the Frappe ecosystem.

@Usman-Kanz That’s actually the plan. We’ve merged all the apps Drive, Meet, Mail, Calendar, etc into a single frappe/suite app, which will soon be available on Frappe Cloud as a managed service.

You’ll simply install it on your site, add your domain(s), and start using it. Everything else will be managed by Frappe.

We haven’t finalized the pricing model yet, but it will most likely be storage-based.

That’s great to hear. This is exactly the type of email hosting model I had in mind.

A storage-based pricing model with multiple mailboxes would be especially useful for small and medium-sized businesses using Frappe Cloud.

I’m looking forward to seeing the final pricing and features once Frappe Suite becomes available as a managed service on Frappe Cloud.

It would be great if the email service includes IMAP/SMTP, custom domains, aliases, modern webmail, good deliverability, and AI-assisted email drafting/replies.

Thanks for the clarification!

@Sagar_Sharma are you working on desktop and mobile file sync clients for drive? It will have a limited audience without a quality sync client.

@volkswagner The plan is to make the Frappe Drive a WebDAV server (+client as well to manage external storage within Drive?).

You can run your own VPS with email services and create as many emails you want and increase the storage size based on your needs. Example: Webmin/Virtualmin, Stalwart, mailcow, iredmail etc.

I am assuming Frappe mail will be the same and will allow storage based but maintaining an email server is not a pleasant experience.

I am liking the way Frappe has been developing a complete suite. Once it matures it will be the best solution for sure.
